Brewed in: Oceanside, New York
2015 BJCP Style: 19C – American Brown Ale
ABV: 6.5%
Canned on: 9/9/20
Tasting on: 3/6/21
Glass: Snifter
Aroma: Moderate flowery hops, light lemon hops. Background of subtle chocolate and a hint of baking soda. 7/12
Appearance: Black and opaque. Light tan head with small to fine bubbles and excellent retention. 3/3
Flavor: Moderate hop bitterness with moderate citrus hop flavor. Well attenuated but with a slight impression of sweetness, especially toward the end. Low, subtle roast malt character including minor chocolate and very light caramel, that still gives a sense of richness. Moderate citrus hops with medium-high hop bitterness (that is occasionally a bit harsh) in the aftertaste, along with subtle dark malt at the very end that leaves a sensation of cocoa. 14/20
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body with slight creaminess. Moderate carbonation. Minor alcohol. 4/5
Overall Impression: The dark roasted/toasted malt is a bit too subtle (for the style) in both the aroma and flavor but still adds richness and provides depth to support the hop flavor and bitterness. 7/10
Final Score: 35/50 B
