Brewed in: Madison, Wisconsin
2015 BJCP Style: 18B. American Pale Ale
ABV: 5.7%
Bottle
Tasting on: 11/19/17
Glass: Shaker
Notes: This beer is a version of Ale Asylum’s Hopalicious made with hop hash.
Aroma: Overtones of moderate citrus, specifically orange and lemon. Undertones of moderate hop spiciness with a hint of garlic. 8/10
Appearance: Hazy, golden with yellow highlights. White head with fine to medium bubbles and good retention. 8.5/10
Flavor: Minor garlic, minor “cigar aftertaste”, and low to moderate hop bitterness in the beginning. A dry middle with moderate orange hop flavor followed by moderate smooth hop bitterness in the end. Minor garlic and minor “cigar aftertaste” in the aftertaste. 17/20
Mouthfeel: Medium body, moderate carbonation, no alcohol. 8/10
Overall Impression: A few strange flavors (garlic, cigar aftertaste) just slightly detract from this American Pale Ale with smooth (and relatively low) bitterness and an emphasis on hop flavor, specifically orange. Perhaps best described as a New England APA. 43/50
Final Score: 85% = B-
