Lake Louie Brewing – 10-81 Session IPA
Lake Louie Brewing – 10-81 Session IPA
Session IPA
ABV: 4.8%
IBU: 18
Bottled
Tasting on: 10/23/14
Glass: Craft Pint
Aroma: Citrus and grapefruit hop notes with some minor malt in the background. 8/10
Appearance: Deep straw color with bright white head and excellent clarity. 8/10
Taste: Hops that are bright in flavor but moderate in intensity start the beer before a medium bitterness takes over in the middle. Light, occasionally dry, malt shows up in the end providing a bit of balance to the beer. The aftertaste is clean with some lingering bitterness and some of the grapefruit notes from the aroma. 16/20
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body with proper carbonation. No noticeable alcohol taste. 7/10
Overall Impression: Bitter throughout with a good hop profile that shows through but seems subdued. As with most session IPAs, the beer lacks a malt balance and ends up having a lighter mouthfeel than would be ideal. That being said, I enjoyed this beer and it is one of the better examples I have had of the fledgling session IPA style. I should also note that this is a June release that I am drinking in October. 44/50
