Epic Brewing Company – Element 29 Pale Ale

American Pale Ale
BJCP Style:  10A. American Pale Ale
ABV: 5.2%
Canned
Tasting on: 11/12/14
Glass: Craft Pint

Aroma: Mild yeast and light malt overtones with subdued undertones of citrusy, slightly earthy hops. 7/10

Appearance: Copper body (as promised) with a bright white head. Slightly hazy. 9/10

Flavor: Modest toast and caramel malt in the beginning with some perceived sweetness.  Hop bitterness shows up in the middle but lacks any definition until the end when earth and citrus notes come through. Toasted bread pairs with yeast in the aftertaste as hops linger on.  16/20

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Moderate to low carbonation. No noticeable alcohol. 8/10

Overall Impression: A nice copper appearance, but the flavors (and aroma) feel muted throughout, and those that come through don’t always work well together, causing some occasionally strange combinations. 39/50

Final Score: 79%
