Bell’s Brewery – Venus
Blonde Ale Brewed With Honey, Apricot, Cardamom, and Vanilla
ABV: 7.5%
Bottled on: 10/3/14
Tasting on: 11/19/14
Glass: Belgian
Aroma: Overtones of tart fruitness and belgian sugar. Warm spices in the undertone. 9/10
Appearance: Deep straw and honey color. Good clarity. Pale white head. 9/10
Flavor: Tartness in the beginning leads to fruitiness in the middle, both on a subtle background of mellow sweetness. The beer ends with a kick of spices followed by sour dryness. Sour flavors continue in the aftertaste along with fading warm spices. 18/20
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation. No alcohol. 9/10
Overall Impression: Throughout the beer, I was continually reminded of a watermelon Jolly Rancher, but in a good way. Sour and tart flavors combine with warm spices and fruitiness on a background of mild sweetness to create another interesting beer in Bell’s Planets Series. 46/50
Final Score: 91%
