Märzen Style Lager
BJCP Style: Oktoberfest/Märzen
ABV: 5.4%
IBU: 24
Bottled
Tasting on: 10/9/14
Glass: Pilsner

Aroma: Not much of an aroma, with only a bit of yeast and a hint of hops noticeable. 4/10

Appearance: A medium, golden straw color with a very strong head.  6/10

Taste: A surprisingly hoppy beginning that fails to be balanced by the middle, which lacks any sort of maltiness or sweetness at all.  The end is quite bitter and even somewhat sour, while the bitterness continues to linger for a few seconds in the aftertaste.  Plain throughout, except for the noted hop bitterness. 12/20

Mouthfeel: Medium to medium-light body that has proper carbonation, despite the excessive head. No taste of alcohol. 8/10

Overall Impression: Hoppy, bitter (and at times sour) and lacking any notable maltiness. This beer is so far out of it’s style category that if it didn’t have a label on it, I would not have guessed that it is an Oktoberfest.  30/50

Final Score: 60%
